Second Chance
Poem Written By Junior, Tashaun Cook

I remember way back when I was 14
Doing wrong got me into custody
Thought my future was bright but I couldn’t see
Only God truly knew my destiny
Got my court dates and I still wasn’t acting right
Still roaming the streets and still getting into fights
The cops caught me again and caught me slippin
Gave me another chance put me on house detention
I never was alone even though I had to isolate
Had these demons on my shoulder telling me to violate
So I left that night and the dude watching me
Caught up with my homies and did a lick, and a robbery
Went to court the next day knowing something wasn’t right
Still had the positivity I’m going home tonight
Went before my judge he was about to let me go home
Dude busted through the door and said Reynolds something wrong
Dude reaches into his pocket and shows the DA his phone
At that moment I knew I wasn’t going home
I was sent to jury so you know I was locked up
Had me in the cold cells so I was cuffed
But here is the part that’s really messed up
One day my family comes in for a visit
Says this would of never happened if you didn’t violate house detention
Mom I’m sorry I don’t wanna see you cry
My dad say she crying because the word out is people wanna see you die
What you mean I have my family living in fear
Having grown men knock knock on my door asking does Shaun live here
Thanking God I was locked up
But I was wondering what would have happened if I wasn’t locked up
Time went by and 6 months went thru
It was time to go home something new to do
I took my deal so I was on probation and house arrest
Judge told me not to violate but I knew I had to pass the test
Couldn’t go home so I was ducking of my grandma house
I know I was putting her in danger but there were no in and outs
Just had to do my time even though I was scared
For the next 3 months, we was talking how to get me outta here
After 3 months the brace finally came off
Both my parents got their jobs transferred talking to their boss
Outta panic, they was talking about going to Italy or France
My parents suggested Florida that’s how I got my second chance
