Toy Story 4 is the follow up to Toy Story 3 taking place over 9 years later. The film follows Woody, voiced by Tom Hanks, and the gang on a road trip with their new owner Bonnie joined by a new “toy” named Forky voiced by Tony Hale. On the way, they run into Bo Peep along with some new faces.

The animation of the film is breathtaking and when compared to the original is jaw-dropping. The performances from the voice cast are amazing, they all pour their heart and soul into their performance, but some standouts include Tom Hanks, Tony Hale, and Annie Potts. Some of the new characters have quickly become some of my favorite characters in the whole franchise. Including Duke Kaboom, a Canadian stuntman voiced by Keanu Reeves and stuffed animals Bunny and Ducky voiced by Jordan Peele, and Keegan Michael-Key respectively. Both of which manage to deliver some of the funniest jokes in the entire film. The film has moments that are very emotional and can be both heartwarming and sad at the same time.

However, while the film does a lot of things right it has some faults like how the film can’t shake the feeling that it feels unnecessary after the ending of Toy Story 3. Many believed Toy Story 3 managed to close the series off in a satisfying way and the continuation was unnecessary. Despite this, it manages to have an interesting villain, Gabby Gabby, who is voiced by Christina Hendricks. Her motivations aren’t inherently evil and are different from a typical villain which manages to invest you into her struggles and her aspirations.

While it does feel unnecessary, the film does many things right including its performances, animation, and the film’s new characters. It’s a great film which deserves to be watched, especially by fans of the Toy Story franchise, and is highly enjoyable for all ages.
