Coyote Pride
School spirit is an important part in schools. It has many benefits for students and the school itself. School spirit allows students to participate in many activities around campus.

Keeping up the school spirit can be challenging but fun. Having new events students can interact in can help foster a sense of pride.
“I think our school spirit can be increased by doing more activities as a student body, so like as we have spirit week, I think that’s a really good way to let people express themselves and show what they think of the school,’’ Junior Matthew Mackivitch said.
Student Council plays an influential role in school spirit. They fundraise, set-up events, and produce service projects to better the community.
“I think our school spirit is pretty lively. A lot of people want to help make the school better, especially as seen through Student Council because a lot of them get involved and there’s a lot of participation and that seen throughout the school, especially on spirit weeks and days by dressing out,” Junior Class Secretary Erin Foley said.
School spirit is not only kept up by activities. Staff play a big part in keeping school spirits up. The way they teach or decorate their rooms. The role teachers play help students learn better and that makes the spirit relationship stronger.
“Staff has a really integral role in promoting school spirit. Students want to know that their teachers care about them not only in the classroom, but in their extracurriculars. I have found that every time that I’ve attended an event, students always come up to me either during the event or afterwards and make a comment about how they saw me there and thanking me for coming. Its really important that teachers male time and the commitment to their students to support them and what they do in the classroom and in their curricular, especially graduate school. Students are going to be more involved if their favorite teachers are attending their events,” Biomedical Sciences Teacher Mrs. Kristen Fendone said.
School spirit clothes are made to create a strong relationship between the school and the students. Different style clothes are made to add diversity to the school’s main uniform. We have unique styles for different clubs, classes, seniors, and spirit and sports. Spirit clothes give a sense of belonging.
“Everybody wants to feel that they belong and being able to wear a spirit shirt or a spirit sweatshirt lets people identify them as part of a group. So, by being part of the group at school, through your spirit gear, you’re identifying yourself so you can recognize each other. It also shows other people that you are a cohesive unit. So, when our fans show up to a sporting event and everyone’s wearing their spirit gear, the other teams know that we’re together and we’re a unit,” Mrs. Fendone said.
School spirit is not limited to after school activities. Our school’s coordinator Mrs. Rebecca Aydelott plans spirit nights at Culvers, Twistee Treat, Chick-fil-a, and so much more. This allows students and parents to interact with our school to help fundraise for the school.
“Spirit nights provide an opportunity for our students and families to meet up and enjoy a mean together in a casual environment. The idea is to bring people together and have fun and we raise a little bit of money as a bonus,” School Coordinator Mrs. Rebecca Aydelott said.
