Middle School Students got to experience a dance on February 14th in honor of Valentine’s Day.

“I had a lot of fun I got to hang out with my friends and dance and just be there, so I’d say it was fun,” 8th grader Pheobe Dove-Wintle said.

While the dance was fun for a lot of people, others said that they found it not as exciting, as these types of events are not everyone’s favorite thing.

“It was fun but kinda boring I mean it’s not really something I would usually enjoy or something that I would like do over and over again, but it was okay,” 8th grader Natile Jackson said.

While school dances might not be for everyone school events are a great way for students to make positive memories that they can carry with them throughout their lives.

“It’s a chance to make memories with your friends and all of the people in your life which is a really cool experience in my opinion,” 8th grader Jazalyn Schweigert said.

Lots of students do not have time to do stuff with friends outside of school so when opportunities like dances pop up it is a good way for students to socialize.

“They get to have time outside of the classroom and to do stuff with friends that maybe they can’t do outside of school,” Dove-Wintle said.

Some students can have a challenging time socializing and these dances can help students come out of their comfort zone enhancing the experiences they have in middle school.

“I’m not usually one to get out of my comfort zone and socialize but if I had the opportunity to do it, I guess I would. I’d go and do it because it was actually fun and brought me out of my shell a little bit which is nice,” Schweigert said.

Some students decided to take dates to the dance while others went to the dance alone or with their friends.

“I went with a group of like five friends, but I know a couple people who went with their “valentine” or boyfriend or girlfriend, but I just went with friends which is totally fine,” Schweigert said.

There were many different things going on for the students to participate in during the dance including hanging outside, getting food at the concession tables and more.

“I would say that there were a lot of things going on during the dance. We could go outside we could eat, dance, or just sit there if we wanted to, so I think that was cool that we had options plus they had a DJ which was cool too,” Jackson said.

Student council members, like Junior secretary council member Erin Foley, work hard to plan these dances for our student body.

“To set up the middle school dance involves making sure we have all the commodities like candies, pizza, sodas, and water ready to sell. Rearranging the school cafeteria tables and setting up an established area for the DJ. One of the students from council will be in charge of music if there’s any decorations that have to be set, we put that up as well,” Foley said.

This is not the first time the student council has helped throw a dance at the school.

“For example, the middle school glow dance we had to hang streamers and decorate the pillars in the cafeteria. It sounds like a lot of work but it’s a chance to have fun with other people on council,” Foley said.

School dances give students an opportunity to meet new people, socialize, and just have fun.

“I mean these dances are just really fun things that only come around every once in a while, where you can make memories and hang out with friends, and you can do so much more but these dances are in the end things that you only get one chance to do so do it, don’t be embarrassed and just have fun,” Schweigert said.
