The theatre department has released a brand-new show that is all sorts of exciting, named Puffs, a Harry Potter spin off.

The Puffs show is a new show that was released in early December with many interesting experiences along with it. It is an all-high school play that offers a unique show inspired by the Harry Potter series from the perspective of the Hufflepuff house.

“The best way to describe Puffs is Harry Potter fanfiction, due to copyright reasons they cannot actually say Hufflepuff, Gryffindor the actual names, so they’re Puffs, Braves, Smarts, and Snakes. It is definitely for the Harry Potter fan, you will get a lot more out of it if you know the wizarding world and familiar with it because there are a lot jokes to the books and movies,” English teacher and Puff director Mrs. Julie Gardieff said.

When the show released, they noted it had some adult humor. Even though the show is focused on Harry Potter fans it is a theatre show anyone can watch and understand. You could even laugh at some of the jokes the show has to offer. December 2-4th the show aired and the tickets to the show only cost 7 dollars.

“I teach 6 classes of English and because we have no theater I have to use my room for a lot of the props so there has been a lot of questions about what the things are used for, come to the show, it is very entertaining though the Harry Potter fans will get the most out of it but it is still funny even if you are not a fan of the wizarding world there is comedy there is characters that are a kind of ridiculous and I am a little extra, so I added my own extra touches to the show,” Mrs. Gardieff said.

The Puffs show has similar messages that the Harry Potter series has as well as the journey the characters go through. Harry Potter is in the show, but this story is not about him, it is about someone else, Wayne Hopkins. During Puffs’ four showings, there were multiple mini events, like food, drinks, raffles and more.

“When I first bought tickets to the show, I did not know what to expect, since I never go to plays but when I got there, I was surprised to see there were other things to do too so I was not just sitting around and stuff I even got to walk around after intermission so that was cool, they also offered butterbeer which I know is in the Harry Potter movies which I thought was cool because I do not know how to make butterbeer and I would not know what it tasted like,” Sophomore Jay Baron said.

The cast of the show performed swiftly and efficiently, enjoying every part of the show themselves. The main lead of the show was Jesse Borrero, with 2 other main Characters who were, Gracie Gillespie and Miles Williams, they were represented similarly to Harry Potter’s group in the main series consisting of 3 main characters with 2 boys and 1 girl.

“Being the MC (Main Character) was really fun, I was a little worried that I might mess up but being surrounded by a great group of people got rid of those nerves,” Borrero said.

During the first half of the show the story is focused on introducing the characters and going through the first few years in Harry Potter’s story. After intermission the story focuses on going through the last few years that Harry Potter was in Hogwarts, where things became more chaotic, for example after the Goblet of Fire.

“I think when it started it was a new take I never saw a play before so it was my first play so when it started it was cute at first because then it was like a little parody and then when I think it ended at least to me I think it dragged on cause in the end he died so I’m waiting for it to end but they kept cracking jokes at the end as soon as it happened it was like okay I feel like it could have been better but I still think it was a good show in my opinion,” Marks said.

The show lasted on average 110 minutes with intermission and other events in between lasting around 3-4 hours. The show itself is centralized on Puffs aka Hufflepuff which is unpopular compared to the other houses in Harry Potter. The house is notoriously stupid compared to the other houses in the show. At first one may think the Puffs are nothing but a bunch of losers but after some laughs you realize the Puffs are not just losers and that they are something more.

“I feel like it is, but they could have trimmed the end a bit more just to get there instead of dragging it on because that’s what did it for me to see if it was good or bad it was still good but the ending kind of was the big deciding factor on how it is going to end for you,” Junior Liam Marks said.
