Disney plus releases a new trailer for Marvel’s new series based on the comic book anti-hero Moon Knight.
“I know that his real name is Marc Spector, and that he had DID (dissociative identity disorder),” Sophomore Josiah Farley stated. “He was given his powers by the moon god Khonshu.”
The protagonist is introduced as Steven Grant, who says he has trouble telling dreams from reality and he is shown to hallucinate when he is awake. Many believe that this is in reference to his DID from the comics and the hallucinations are his other personalities. The nature of Moon Knight’s production gives the series more narrative freedom.
“There was a lot of room to try stuff because there wasn’t the pressure that we got to make sure we make however many hundreds of millions of dollars on the opening weekend. So we could make it very point-of-view,” Moon Knight actor Oscar Isaac mentioned. “We could make very weird decisions. At the moment, at least – and I don’t imagine it’s going to go backwards – it feels like that’s where more of the risk is being taken because it can financially.”
There are many thoughts on what the rating is going to be for the series after the trailer’s release as the show itself is being made by MCU, or Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is owned by Disney, which seems to never go higher than PG-13.
“It deals a lot with one’s mentality, there are plenty of horror elements and more mature cut scenes,” Junior Niurka Medina explained. “Probably a TV-14 rating, but who knows? Everyone is different with maturity.”
Along with the rating, there are many challenges faced with the making of this series. One such challenge is the actor Gaspard Ulliel’s death, who passed away in a ski accident a couple of days after the release of the trailer. It has not been made clear how the team filming the series is going to continue in the making of the show.
“I believe the series already finished filming and if that’s so, his character might have already passed and if not, then he’ll probably have an off-screen death,” Farley said.
Despite the complications, the production of the series is continuing, and many people remain enthusiastic about the series.
“Marvel makes promising series and characters, so I’m hoping it’s just as good this time,” Medina stated. “The effects and choice of characters are swell too.”
