Every student has a distinct way to express who they are, some might do it through appearance or actions, affecting others’ perception of them.

People often judge others by looks and behavior in a certain environment, that judgment will determine if and how others will approach you. One example of this is Senior Aylea Treston who feels that she often comes off as intimidating due to her appearance.

“I feel as though if I did not stand out as much and if I didn’t express myself the way that I do, I would be seen as more approachable. ” Treston shared.

When one can relate to a person appearance an urge  to engage is established , eventually turning into a relationship, that is because of a sympathy that is normally caused by a similarity in their appearance.

“If somebody were to have a similar style to me and decorate themselves as I do, I would feel more compelled to speak to them than anybody else. ” Treston stated.

A distorted impression might have a lasting effect on people and keep two individuals with similar opinions from linking, some opinions are only shared after a first approach, but when a first impression is not pleasant a second

moment becomes doubtful.

“I think first impressions within society at all levels is going to have an impact on your overall view of someone but maybe student-wise, like first impressions might have more of an impact in the long term. ” English teacher Christopher Binion stated.

On the other hand first impressions are often inaccurate and conceded with a lot of haste, but when given an opportunity are redeemed, bringing to light an unexpected revelation about someone’s character and interest.

“This one time, I met a girl who I was put in a group activity with, and she seemed very much like a loner and in the end, I realized she was actually very friendly and sociable, but had no friends in that class,”  Freshman Kaytlin Potter stated.

Along with imprecise perceptions comes a lot of judgment mostly from society’s expectations on how one should be presented in certain circumstances. Mr. Binion shared his learnings on inaccurate first impressions based usually just with brief information that is usually perceived on a visual level.

‘‘My own experience, I literally judged someone based up on my first impression and then over time as I got to see the whole scope of them it totally changed my impression of them.” Mr. Binion said“What I learned over time is you can’t judge a book by its cover, you really need to learn that person and kind of learn about their experiences before you are able to really understand who they are.”

Everyone has a different personality-print, the combination of fingerprint and personality, two similar concepts, both with the same purpose. A personality is an incredibly unique characteristic that is shared with the people you interact with daily.

“I believe that events in the past, for example your childhood could affect how you express yourself. Basically, one’s prior experiences can define how they present themselves in the future, that’s what makes you so unique”  Freshman Isabela Mezzaroba said .
