Volunteering can foster a sense of community and a sense of purpose, and when you volunteer, you are helping other people. 

“Volunteering is fun, I mean, is helping out other people and I like that,” Freshman Kaytlin Potter said 

Giving back to a community can be good because it can make people feel good about themselves knowing that they did something for someone, and that is what volunteering does. 

  “Hang out with friends, and I like sports a lot, it can be fun,” Potter said, she has volunteered 4 times at football games. 

Volunteering can be a way to meet new people, especially if you are shy and you do not talk, because the people that are there have the same interest as you. Many schools give the option for the student to volunteer because the student gains real-world experience and skills like leadership, and problem solving.  “Volunteering can also help students grow in their learning through community service because it offers the student the opportunity to apply their classroom learning to practical scenarios,” Content Writer Addison Waters wrote.  

 You also can volunteer to improve your skills in something that you like or learn something completely differently, for example, if you really like photography you can volunteer in games to take pictures, or if you want to learn how to play football, you can volunteer at a football game. 

“It’s practice for when you want to do things, I volunteer to take pictures, I want to do photographs when I grow up so it’s great practice and you get to learn a lot more about the class and stuff when you talking to editors during volunteering,” Freshman Jeymar Jones said. 

Students do volunteer hours because it looks good for college, especially if they are thinking of staying in Florida because the state of Florida has the Bright Futures scholarship program, where one of the requirements is the students must complete a minimum of 75 hours of volunteering. 

“So, you can contribute to your school, be able to do things and feel important,” Jones said.
