The gym turned into a world of glamour and glitz last Saturday for the Old Hollywood –themed Homecoming dance that many high school students made memories of.
At first, some students were worried about how they could conform to the Hollywood theme, concerned about what to wear and what decorations, props and activities would be used. However, when those like senior Chelsea Garcia arrived at the event, they realized how fun and memorable this year’s Homecoming dance actually was.
Garcia stated, “I was anxious about how I was going to find a dress to fit the theme and if they would make the basketball court pretty in time, but I ended up finding a nice dress, and when I showed up and looked around, I was surprised at how nicely they put the dance together.”
Many high–schoolers from the school’s student council volunteered to clean, decorate, and craft props to be put up at the dance. What might have seemed like a daunting and stressful task to some, appealed to volunteers like junior Clara Made, who fancied her time assembling Homecoming with her peers.
Made claimed, “I thought it was a great experience that can be used create bonds and teach leadership skills. I was even able to show my creativity skills. My favorite part of volunteering was working as a group and putting our thoughts together.”
When it comes to the happenings of the event, students and staff indulged themselves in a night of music and socializing with others. Being able to dance and have fun without the weight of schoolwork on their shoulders for one night made many high–schoolers feel elated and stress-free.
“Homecoming for me was a fun time because I got to be there with my friends and my girlfriend and jumping in the crowd with the music felt like I was at a mini concert,” junior Godric Rivera claimed.
For years, Homecoming has crowned two lucky seniors as king and queen on those special nights, this time being no exception. This year’s Homecoming queen and king were seniors Julianna Pandolfi and Bernard Destine, chosen by their peers through votes. Pandolfi sees this accomplishment as a memorable moment in her high school career.
Pandolfi stated, “I really enjoyed my Homecoming night! I never thought I would win homecoming queen in my life; it was a fantasy. It made me feel special. I definitely see myself looking back at this moment when I’m older.”
In the end, 2023’s Hollywood Homecoming was a night to look back on for students and staff, proving to be fun and alluring. “It was such a good night, I’m sure I’ll look back at photos and videos of it in the future and remember how much fun it was,” Sophomore Salome Restrepo said.
