The Arts and Crafts Club is starting back up! English teacher Julie Gardieff is currently managing the club, running the meetings, and providing the materials.
“A lot of people like arts and crafts, number one. It’s also very therapeutic. One of the things the club focuses on is diamond painting. It is known to reduce stress and anxiety and it is also my personal way to relax,” said Gardieff.
Ms. Gardieff commented on the club’s accessibility, “With sports, a lot of the time you have to try out for the team. You might get put on it, but if you don’t have a certain skill level, you might not get to play as much or you might get cut from the team altogether. Art is kind of the same way; You have to have a certain skill level. The Arts and Crafts Club is kind of the club for everyone,” said Gardieff.
Creativity is in full bloom as talented students explore various art forms. The Arts and Crafts Club provides a supportive and inclusive environment for students to express themselves through their artwork. Gardieff stated, “The things that I offer during the club everyone can find something they’re good at.”
This is sophomore Barbara Vera Rodriguez’s first year participating in the Arts and Crafts Club, but that did not stop her from joining in on the fun. “I wanted to be able to do something after school that I like which arts stuff because I like to do stuff with my hands like drawing,” said Rodriguez. “It is a welcoming environment and I like being in the club.”
Senior Maria Montero attended the Arts and Crafts Club meeting for the first time on September seventh. The atmosphere and activities left a good first impression on Montero and she enjoyed the meeting. When speaking about her first experience being at an arts and crafts meeting, she highlighted the importance of clubs in school. “I think they’re very important because they can help students build skills like teamwork and leadership and it is also a good way to gather students who share a commonly interest and it helps to unify the student body and create a community, basically,” said Montero.
