Varsity volleyball finished their last game in Haines City.
Although the volleyball team wrapped up their season with a loss, the players are still happy overall with the season.
The captain, senior Julianna Pandolfi, has been playing volleyball for 6 years. Before the game, she stated feeling nervous due to the opposing team’s Senior Night.
“Walking in the gym, I found out that it was their Senior Night so that was kind of a little bit of a slap in the face because you usually schedule Senior Night against the bad teams that you know that you’re gonna win. I really wanted to do my best before the game, and knowing that it was my last game already, I was kind of feeling a little emotional because it’s the time period that I’ve been playing volleyball for a long time. It’s a big part of my life so I was feeling sentimental,” Pandolfi said.
Pandolfi shares that she finds room for improvement for both her and the team. Despite the good points scored, there was disappointment in the outcome.
“After the game, I was really upset that we lost. I felt that I could of done better and that my team could of done better. We did have some good points, but I was just kind of disappointed that we lost,” Pandolfi said.
When it comes to the team, junior Yaslin Colon states that she enjoys the positive attitude from the team. Additionally, she shares that the team was very loving and caring towards one another.
“It was really fun working with them and there were brand new personalities. They were really hyped all the time. Sometimes we would have our up days but everyone as a team would come together and try to cheer each other up. They were very loving and caring and as a group, they were very fun to work with,” Colon said.
Colon has been playing volleyball for 2 years and plans to play volleyball again in the future. Despite the loss that day, she kept her head high and let the loss go.
“After the game, we were obviously very devastated. It was our last game that we ended up losing but we played a really good game. There wasn’t much that we could do about it, but I just let it go after,” Colon said.
Although there were some improvements to be made, the team enjoyed playing with one another as a family. Pandolfi explains how she enjoyed her team this year along with building chemistry with one another.
“I really liked my team this year. As individuals, we all get along really well and I think we have good chemistry, but when it came to the volleyball court, we had a lot of issues with some things because it was a brand-new team this year. I am the only returner on the team from last year, so it was like starting completely fresh. Individually, I love the girls all so much and we’re all really great friends, but as a team, I think we definitely had a little bit of errors that could have been improved,” Pandolfi said.
In the end, the team enjoyed playing with one another this season and even hope to play with each other again. Although they ended with a loss, there are high hopes for this team along with many other talented players to tag along.
“I loved having them as a group and I hope to play again with them next year,” Colon concluded.
