“Basketball has impacted my life in so many different ways. It helped me realize things that I would need to know about life. The sport, has shown me that you have to earn things you’re passionate about. It focuses on team building, good sportsmanship, confidence in yourself, and attitude towards the game.
One of the most important things that I’ve learned while being involved with basketball is team building. Being close with my teammates helped my game and ability. Doing this in basketball helped me get along with my everyday friends and peers.
Basketball never ceases to impact my self-confidence- developing me from the self-conscious player I used to be, to the more self-assured woman I am today. Basketball has taught me to show sportsmanship on and off the court by showing respect to my opponents and classmates. I am now more likely to control myself and be more patient with others rather than lashing out on people when I have a bad game.
Throughout my High School years, I am happy to finally say that I’m proud of keeping my grades up and continuing to work harder towards my gpa. Throughout 9th-10th grade I’ve had a difficult time catching up with my assignments and I ended up giving up. Until Kylie Root sat down with me and pushed me to keep going in order for me to stay on the team.
I’m also very proud and grateful to be the girls’ basketball captain for 4 years, this has made me continue to lead by example because I was always the oldest on the team and I wouldn’t want my teammates to make silly mistakes like I once did.
I’m especially proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and being senior class president. This has made me realize that I am capable of handling certain situations and learning how to manage my time.
I would always panic whenever I was overwhelmed with the things, I had to do each day, so when I became the class president I started panicking even more. It all stopped when a former class president helped me schedule everything out and made me realize that I am capable in making all of these things happen in a timely manner.”
