Last Saturday the Parent Teacher Committee threw a snowy, winter themed formal for all of high school to enjoy.
“I think they really went all out with the decorations. And I really think that they put a lot of effort into the preparation and it was all really on theme,” sophomore Caitlyn Class said. “It made me feel as if I was in a winter wonderland.”
This was the PTC’s first ever time hosting a high school dance, which was quite a feat. Fendone described the event going well and explained that much preparation, hard work and communication was required to make it the memorable event it turned out to be.
“I think it went well. Anytime you do something for the first time, you have to understand that there’s a growing process and a learning process. In order to plan the dance we had to first form a committee. We had to contact vendors such as our DJ and our photo booth at Texas Roadhouse,” stated Fendone, “And then we had to get the ticket sales set up and advertise.”
For some students, including sophomore Mariam Guirguis, the process of getting ready before an event is one of the most exciting parts. Mariam also explained she believed the formal was one of many unforgettable experiences that FCUS should have.
“Getting ready for the winter formal was a really fun experience because I got to go to my best friend’s house and get ready together while helping each other with makeup, hair, and nails,” Guirguis said. “I absolutely think our school should throw more parties like this, as it could encourage school spirit.”
The event was organized by the PTC, but some students did get in the spirit and got involved with setting up or packing up the decorations. Class helped after the dance, explaining that she knows, as a student council member, what goes into cleaning up after a dance.
“To be able to clean it up after all the hard work that [the PTC] did was something I was really appreciative of being able to do,” Class shared.
Sophomore Kamil Hernandez helped set up decorations and has made volunteering a habit at FCUS. He explained, “I helped with moving the tables from the cafeteria to the gym and decorated each table, set up one of the selfie stations, and put together a tree for the dance floor. Just the fact that I could do something outside of school hours made me want to help.”
Despite enjoying the dance overall, Fendone acknowledged the mild controversy surrounding the price of the event. Fendone explained that the higher cost of the ticket ($50) was because of the catering from Texas Roadhouse as students had told her they wanted food at dances. However, she shared that the PTC would not have the same catering if they were to host the event again.
