“I worked for an environmental lab and we tested soil and water samples for groundwater contamination. I did that for over 20 years. I was getting tired of being in the lab around not too many people, the same people all the time. I don’t know, it was kind of getting a little monotonous, so I decided to branch out.
I first substituted and I kind of liked that. I said, well, maybe instead of making less per hour, I should try teaching. I’ve been teaching for, I think, this is my eighth year. It’s just kind of like a life change.
I teach marine science. I mean, I teach a bunch, but I feel like marine science is my favorite. I really like working with the high school students because it’s like working with little adults. I can kid around with them to a point, but we respect each other, I feel like it’s nice watching them transition, especially if I see them from 9th grade up to 12th grade and watch them transition into young adults and then go on to college or whatever their future holds for them,” science teacher Ms. Karen Tripp shared.
