“One reason why I became a hall monitor at Four Corners was because I needed a job. But in all seriousness, this is not my first time working around kids and when I saw the job listed on ND, I thought it would be a perfect fit for my skills based on the past that I have with previous experience working with kids,” Young said.
“Before here I was a license insurance agent, I have been doing that for 23 years and I am still doing that until this day. Some of my greatest memories for me is just coming here to try to make a difference with you guys, of course us counselors in the hallway love helping you guys out, you guys have a lot of dialogue with me in the hallway so it’s a little assistance I can give you guys to help you guys out,” Young said.
“Some mornings are pretty rough because no one likes the hall monitor of course, no one wants to be told to go to class or be where you are supposed to be. But like I said it’s just me trying to touch you guys in a positive way because I had to be the same influencer when I was working with staff members, and I had to get along with them. I want the kids in the future here to be positive moving forward, after you guys’ graduate and move on into your careers and your family life I obviously don’t want anybody getting into any type of trouble, but you know of course I am raining in to help you along the way in financial literacy and stuff like that,” Young said.
“What motivates me to do this job is obviously there’s an income. I do have bills to pay but back to the story I said to touch lives, I do have a son who is in school right now he is in middle school right now but just touching lives. Some of you guys don’t have father figures and if I can be that person, bounce ideas off in the hallway things of that nature, we are pretty much counselors we are not just always telling people to get to class,” Young said.
“To answer an event that has shaped my life I would go back to my household my father was a very strict guy and the things he instilled in me like treat others the way you wanted to be treated so, it was instilled in me a long time ago that you obviously want to try to do the right thing I have never been in trouble a day in my life, never been arrested, never been to jail and we gonna keep it like that,” Young said.
“I wish I would have made some better decisions along the way; I wish I would have continued my education. I only went to school for two years after I graduated high school so I can have my associate degree in finance even though I never used it. But probably continue my education and get that four-year degree if I would have been in a better situation financially,” Young said.
