There are millions of people who would consider themselves a writer in some way or form and in that group of people there are also many teachers and students in Four Corners who dabble in the art of literature from time to time.
One new writer in Four Corners is junior Caleb Miller. Miller has been writing for only a few months now and has steadily built up a large portfolio of short stories throughout that time. He has been known to sometimes even share these stories with Four Corners’ Literary Club as well as other students.
“When I first started writing about six months ago what really inspired me to write was friends of mine who were also writers. At first writing was just something I would try once just to see what I could do, but it quickly became something I really enjoyed. I’ve also always been a big fan of reading ever since I was young so other’s stories can sometimes inspire me with my own writing,” Miller said.
Speaking of Four Corner’s Literary Club, it is a group of students who love to read and write and to talk about/share what they’re reading and writing, and Literary club is also led by sophomore Sarah Reznak who has been interested in writing her own stories for years now.
“The main reason I started writing was because I kept reading different series and whenever a series ended, I was left with more questions than answers, so I thought why don’t I write my own series? One of my inspirations are, funnily enough, Hirohiko Araki. Although he does write, his big claim to fame is “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure”. Besides that, right now the only stories I’ve been in the making of is a high fantasy show which is a bit overwhelming but also is very exciting,” Reznak stated.
Although there is a plentiful amount of student writers in Four Corners Literary Club and in Four Corners as a whole, there are also some teachers and staff who like to take to take pen to paper. This includes 10th grade english teacher Joanne Craig. Craig has been into literature since before she became a teacher, and she has even written her own novel titled,“When is it my time to cry?”.
“I’ve always been an avid reader since I was young but when I started to write when I was in college. I kept a journal, and I would write whatever upset or bothered me and I started the journal based on my therapist’s advice but after I started using the journal I decided that I didn’t want to because I believed it was time to write my book, and that’s when I wrote my novel. Writing is kind of like cooking for me. I have to be in the mood to write just like I have to be in the mood to bake, if you ask me to bake a cake when I’m not in the mood to bake then it probably won’t end up tasting good and that’s kind of like how I view writing,” Craig stated.
The last writer that lurks the halls of Four Corners is Junior Nya Young. Nya found out that she had a passion for writing a long while ago and since then she has expressed herself and expressed her passion for literature throughout her writing in many different stories and pieces.
“Writing has helped me get through a lot of things and I’ve had a little passion for it since first year. I really like Historic Fiction, that’s what I write now, and my biggest inspiration is Fyodor Dostoyevsky (he wrote Brothers Karamazov) The main reason I write is really because it can be an escape from any problems, and it can be a way for myself and others to really express themselves. My main advice for new writers is write for yourself and don’t write for other people. Criticism will come and go but don’t let it make you question why you’re writing. Do it for yourself,” Young stated.
