The start of the 2024-2025 school year means that the new seniors are walking through the doors and into their last year of high school.
Throughout their senior year there will be various events. These events are just for seniors so they can have the best last year of their high school life.
“I’m excited for all the senior events we have, like Senior Sunrise, Senior Picnic, Universal Grad Bash, and things like that,” senior Chasmeri Bens said.
Most seniors are extremely excited about Grad Bash, this is an event where all seniors from different schools meet at the Universal Studios Theme Park in Orlando, Florida. After the park closes, the seniors get this time to themselves to meet new people, go on attractions, and hang out with friends.
“My eighth-grade year, we had covid and we were online, so I was not able to have any type of field trip,” Bens said.
For some seniors it will be their first field trip since elementary school because of Covid. Due to quarantine, schools nationwide had to stop usual end of the year activities including Grad Bash.
Another event that senior athletes are looking forward to this year is their senior night.
“Senior night is a time where we get to, as seniors, be celebrated for our athletic work throughout the year. It’s also a time that we can come with our friends and family and have our last hurrah before our year is over,” Arianna Calixto said.
Seniors who play sports have also gotten the opportunity to build connections with their teammates and are sad that they will be leaving their fellow classmates this year.
“Since I just started playing soccer, I was able to build bonds with these girls and knowing that eventually it’ll be my last time on the field with them is emotional and one of those things that I won’t accept until it happens,” senior athlete Joselyn Quevedo said.
Although seniors are also excited for the other events, such as Grad Bash, Senior Picnic, Senior Sunrise, they are most excited for the graduation ceremony. However, graduation also means saying goodbye to friends and classmates.
“I’m actually really excited but obviously it’s gonna be very emotional because we will be saying goodbye to all of your friends that you grew up with,” senior Quevedo said.
Most seniors are nervous for the graduation ceremony but even more anxious for their lives after high school. Seniors next step into their lives outside of high school might be going to college, getting a job, or figuring out their lives from there.
“I’ve been doing dual enrollment so I feel like it’s gonna be easy for me to transition into college. The only thing that scares me is what I’m going to do in college. All I know is that I’m going to try to enjoy my senior year as much as possible before entering the real world,” Calixto said
