Four Corners Upper School has recently released an all-girl sorority that has sparked the interest of many young girls. This program teaches girls about womanhood and is all about giving back to the community.
“I wanted to join the sorority to help younger girls have a better elementary school experience,” freshman Adriana Abreu said.
The club gives girls opportunities to socialize and get to know each other while also giving them a chance to explore leadership skills.
“The sorority is basically a club that I wanted to make so that all the girls in the school get to know each other better. I wanted a place where girls in our school could have leadership roles. I felt that was important because we do have some clubs, but when I was looking, we don’t have any girl clubs,” senior Arianna Calixto said.
The girls leading the club have multiple goals that they plan to reach while being in the sorority.
“One of my goals is to just make sure everybody gets along with each other and make sure it’s closer with the bond. Not everybody has to be friends, but I want to make sure everybody has someone they can look up to and not just let the teachers persuade on a student,” senior Hannah Murphy said.
President and founder of Sorority senior Isabella Hemenway shares the inspiration behind this club comes from a very touching story.
“Miss Ashley inspired me. I know that might sound like a silly reason but she had told me how in middle school that she had done something like this and she would of loved that it came back to four comers. I thought oh my god it’s my senior year let me do it for her and for me,” Hemenway said.
Sorority girls set the record as the biggest group in the school after there was a huge number of applications to take part in the club.
“It’s kind of crazy I’m not gonna lie, I chose some of my favorite girls to start this with. we planned this since last year, this is something I’ve been looking into and talking to our principal about and seeing the teachers who want to be a part of it,” Hemenway said.
Hemenway explained that she was not expecting the overwhelming amount of interest shown for the club.
“Honestly, I did not expect it to be a big thing I thought it was just gonna be like me and my friends. I figured it would start that wav but to see we have over 100 people applied to our club. Finding out that it’s the biggest club in FCUS has to be one of the craziest things ever, I couldn’t believe it,” Hemenway said.
The group has many exciting events planned for the future including community service projects and fundraising such as the Cinderella closet, a project that donates dresses, shoes and make up to girls who do not have access to it.
“Community service is a big thing the sorority plans to do, we wanna try to make a cinderella’s closet, we also would like to try going to different shelters as well. My mom is a nurse at Winter Haven Hospital so we want to see if we can volunteer there too,” Hemenway said.
