The Cross-Country team has now won the title of first runner up at the Ococee High School cross country meet.
Even though the team is proud of their win other teammates believe some improvements could have been made to gain a better result.
“I think I did very good at the last track meet, but I do believe I could have done better. I got a medal for 11th place, but I know I can do better because my old times were better. My personal record is 3 miles in 24 minutes which makes me feel as if I could have done better,” junior Chance Mclntosh stated.
Most of the students who are on the cross-country team like Mclntosh are also on the Track team. This is due to the fact a lot of students find Cross Country a great way to prepare for the track season.
“I joined cross country team because I’m trying to get ready for the Track season and my parents really want me to join because they believe I have potential in Cross Country,” Mclntosh said.
Some team members such as junior Abdiel Nunez who has been on team since the previous year feel that this will be a better season for them to improve their skills and obtain a great comeback.
“I did very poorly last season, but I feel as if I can do better because all of my family members like my siblings have done that and I’m pretty good at running I just wasn’t focused enough,” junior Abdiel Nunez said.
Other members such senior Yi Shao felt that the summer training that the Cross-Country team held was crucial to doing well this season which may have been factor on why he did not do as well as he wanted to.
“I think I did pretty bad because I didn’t do summer training. Summer training is actually important for Cross Country where you just train and like run in the summer that’s where you have the most time to yourself and do whatever but since I didn’t do that and since I didn’t really know anything going in Cross Country I didn’t do as well as I wanted to. But my first meet was not that great, but I wouldn’t say it was the worst compared to others,” Shao said.
For the students who are new to the Cross-Country team, previous team members believe that the best way to prepare for this year’s season is to be yourself and focus on yourself.
“I feel that the new members should take the advice of not comparing themselves to other people. Do your own best, don’t try to do others’ best and just have fun. Also, don’t get to in your head about it. It’s just the learning stage and don’t get ahead of yourselves,” Nunez said.
