“I’m from Colombia, but when I came to this country, I just saw that y’know cheer is kinda something you see a lot here—I didn’t see that in my country, y’know? And I just really liked seeing like girls do it—like ever since I was little, I liked it. I don’t know, I remember that one day one of my friends was like ‘why don’t you just try out?’ and I just tried out and fell in love with the sport.”

“Some experiences I have learned in the cheerleading team is that it’s really important to have communication and be really understanding. Because we’re in a team when we’re all girls and of course there are some days where some girls are going through something. And sometimes it’s hard to like, come as a group and understand each other and I’ve learned that with communication and understanding, it fixes that. So that way everyone can all connect to the team.”

“It feels weird, it doesn’t feel like it’s my last year. It’s something really weird to experience knowing that everything you do everyday it’s like—your last for something. Like your last week of school, like there’s gonna come a day where it’s gonna be my last practice. It’s just really weird, like mixed emotions,” senior Salome Guarin said.
