“Music has always been somethings thats dear to me largely because of my dad. Ever since I could remember, my dad has always been one to make music, mostly for important parts of his life, whether it was his relationship with my mom or for me, he always expressed himself in the music he made. That was the kickstarter for me for starting out with my own music making but combined with that I always found how music is used to guide a person into expression very very interesting. What I mean by that is that music can help a person express themselves without needing a direct ‘I’m sad’or ‘I’m happy’ just like good poems, stories and artwork, it can make you feel deeply what the artist wants you to feel. I see music as a beautiful combination of all of these though because it can tell a story and paint a picture in your mind, while embedding it with instrumentals and it can do all of this in the span of 3-4 minutes. It all mostly relies on the process of how someone makes the music. This is important to me because i’ve never been the expressive type when it comes to how I feel and i’ve always wanted to show who I am creatively which is why I fell in love with music so much because I can show the part of me that no one has really seen. An artist that really inspired me as well is an artist called Silverchair mostly due to how their music is written.

A good example of this, is one of their songs called “Ana’s song” which the singer wrote about his battles with anorexia. He wrote about it like its a bittersweet relationship with a girl called Ana and he wrote it like a poem with parts of it saying he “loves her till the bone” showing that the anorexia is affecting his life through weight change. This harsh topic of a disorder written in such a beautiful way is an amazing creative way of expressing. Now my dad and I share the same love for music, and I help him create his songs so its fun seeing whats he writes about. I also get to enhance it all by putting my instrumentals on it which gives me experience for my future. My passion for music also led me to create my music design club where I aim to help people find what kind of creativity they might have when making music,” senior Godric Rivera said.
