As of Jan. 19th, 2025, the popular internet app known as TikTok, has been banned from app stores and is now unable to be downloaded due to the bill that was passed.
After the ban, many Americans have been migrating to an app named Xiaohongshu or Red Note, which is a Chinese social media app which still gives the TikTok feel but is primarily catered to Chinese people.
The Chinese are willing to teach Americans their language and make sure they feel as welcome and comfortable as possible on the app while still being respectful of the rules.
“After the TikTok ban, I really was considering just sticking to instagram, but I got kind of interested after all the hype about RedNote. I downloaded it out of pure boredom and I’ve honestly been hooked ever since,” sophomore Brian Cunillera stated.
American’s are also trying to teach the Chinese what American’s do in a day to day life as well. American traditions may be different than Chinese traditions, but the Chinese show an interest and even want to learn more about America from the photos and videos Americans post on the app.
RedNote even went as far as adding a translate button for those who can’t understand comments in Mandarin or other languages that aren’t english. With the app on the rise in multiple states and even being the most downloaded app in the app store as of Jan 20th RedNote has unique features and aspects that keep it apart from other apps.
The ability to see where people are from in the comment section or even post pictures to react to funny comments and videos, allows users to be more interactive and creative with their comments creating more interaction from others.
There are also different genres in the explore tab which can range to anything whether its food, games, books, or even teaching different languages. This also allows people who use the app to build their own algorithm easier since they can choose what genre they enjoy.
With Red Notes continuous growth there are many new things to be discovered and learned about on the app.
