Prom 25′: A Night to Remember

Prom took place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios this year on the night of May 8th. Prom goers attended the dance with the theme of Arabian nights in mind.

The first wave of attendees was escorted to the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular site by Hollywood studios employees at 6:30 pm. The second wave of students entered at 6:50.

“When I was walking into Hollywood Studios for prom night, I felt pretty excited. I had been a few years since I had been to the park itself, and everything felt as new to me as when I went to the park for the first time. I honestly had a tough time even trying to find my way to the entrance,” senior Rhea Pallares said.

To go to the prom, students had to pay $115 for their tickets. Junior Ethan Garcia purchased a ticket and attended the event.

“Considering the price, prom was definitely worth it! I had such a wonderful time at prom whether it was the dancing, food, or being with friends, it was great,” Garcia said.

People arrived in all sorts of attires, from tuxes and gowns to pirate and Indiana Jones costumes.

“For my outfit, I opted for something comfortable, but I also wanted something a little bit lighter as well. I managed to find a dress that fit all of this, which had two straps and pockets! I also went with gold accessories, since my dress was a dark, cool toned color. My mother had even let me borrow a bracelet that my father had gotten for her,” Pallares said.

At the event, people danced throughout the night to loud music, while others found time to enjoy a game with their friends.

“I did get to dance with some of my friends for a little bit multiple times throughout the dance. I also ended up bringing Uno to the dance so that if any of us got bored, we could play a few rounds, which we did end up doing just before food was ready- the tables were so wide hardly any of us could reach the cards!” Pallares said.

From inside the trunk of a jeep, the DJ played a variety of music from different eras to excite the crowd.

“The DJ’s music was good. He did good mash ups and mixing. I wish he did more requests and Spanish songs but overall, it was good music,” junior Matthew Lux said.

At the beginning of prom after everyone arrived, Disney staff members brought out trays of food the buffet tables, which formed an immediate line.

“The Food was great actually! I didn’t not like anything about it. They provided us with salad, pasta, broccoli and mushroom chicken, and all of it was so good,” senior Evangeline Ruiz said.

Throughout the event, students could vote for their prom king and queen nominations. The prom court was announced, and of those candidates, Mia Villanueva won the title of Prom Queen and Sebastian Rodriguez won Prom King.

“I’ve always been surrounded by love and encouragement from my family, where I’ve felt like a princess in their eyes. To now be honored like this by my classmates feels incredibly special. This moment means more to me than just a title or a crown, it’s a celebration of the journey I’ve been on, the friendships I’ve built, and the person I’ve become,” Villanueva said.

This year’s prom was a roaring success! After all the dancing, laughing, and cheering of the night, prom 25’ will be remembered by many for years to come.

“Prom is one of those milestones we’ll always remember, knowing that it is the last school event I’ll be going to besides graduation makes it even more unforgettable,” Villanueva said.
