Have you always dreamed of being a teacher?
“Yeah, now I look back at it. I think from an early age I did, and I remember thinking
would be really fun because I really am that geek that absolutely loved everything about
school. I did not like summer holidays, I didn’t like christmas break. After the first week
of summer holidays I would say ‘is it time to go back yet mom?’ And she would tell me
‘No, you’ve got 5 more weeks.’ I actually, genuinely, 100% loved school. I didn’t love
college (the last 2 years of high school), but I absolutely loved school. But I think it’s
because it’s regimented: ‘this is when you do this, this is when you do that,’ you know? I
just liked everything about school, I loved learning, and then I thought it’d be really cool
[to teach], but because I didn’t go to college I was thinking: ‘I don’t really know what to
do with myself’, and then I think it took me coming here and having my own children to
finally decide: ‘you know what? I think I am going to pursue what I want to do.’ So that
is why I became a teacher.”
