Skate. is the newest entry in the Skate series after a 15-year hiatus since Skate 3. Skate. was published by Electronic Arts (EA) and season 1 is going to be released in the near future.
What is Skate?
The Skate series was developed by EA with its signature ”flick it” system that uses the secondary joystick to do tricks with the player’s skateboard. The game takes place in the city of San Vansterdam, with the game giving the player freedom to create their own character which can get items from the shop after doing challenges to raise the player’s reputation. The game also introduces crossplay between PC and console for the first time in the series and it is planned for the game to come out on mobile devices in the future. The game also brings three control systems; Streamlined, which makes it easier to do tricks, Classic, which is a bit harder to use and do tricks with, and experienced, which is the hardest control system to learn.
The game has a large amount of customization items such as clothes. Which include hats, shoes, shirts, and pants, for the player model. Skateboards can also have their wheels customized as well as have stickers added. The game also has countless emotes and gestures to use while playing. It also has countless glitches, such as a glitch using Classic controls that can launch you into space, and many speed glitches that can make you go very fast. Players also are not forced to do challenges, which allows the player the freedom to explore. The player also gets a feature to create a save point to return to in case of not being able to make the trick that was attempted. Players can also make friends on different platforms as well. There is also a party system that allows players on different devices to play together on the same server.
While the game has its good aspects, it does have negative aspects. For example, players use the Quick Drop feature—which lets players place down props such as ramps and rails—is used to ruin other skaters’ tricks. Players can also remove certain ramps using said feature which can cause players who have the feature that turns off players and props, to not be able to make the jump which could become a problem for other players.
Is Skate. Worth the grind?
Yes, I believe that the game is worth it as it is a fun experience where you can explore the city, play with your friends and other players, and customize your character and skateboard. The game is also beginner friendly, especially when you use the streamlined control style. The glitches that the game has make the game much more fun, allowing you to get to places not possible without them. It can get annoying when players use the Quick Drop system to troll others. I still believe that the game is fun, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes games similar to Skate.
