President Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States with his Vice President JD Vance by his side on Monday, January 20th.
The ceremony took place in the Capitol Rotunda due to the low temperatures in Washington DC. The last time the ceremony was moved inside because of extreme weather was in 1985 when Ronald Reagan was sworn in as president.
As the event is a representation of all and every democratic nation, leaders from around the world as well as notable tech CEOs were present independent of their political party and beliefs. Some of those figures were Mark Zuckenberg, Elon Musk, Argentina’s President Javier Milei and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Melani.
All of America’s living presidents also attended the event, – Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden. Some might have thought President Joe Biden, and his Vice Kamala Harris would not be present because of Trump’s absence in the 2021 Inauguration, however, Bidens administration attended the event and congratulated the new President-elect.
Unlike any other president in United States History, Trump did not place his hand on the bible when taking the presidential oath during the swearing-in ceremony. The first lady Melanie Trump held two bibles; Trump’s personal bible which was gifted to him by his mother and the Lincoln Bible, which was used in Abraham Lincoln’s swearing-in ceremony in 1861. The president did not place his hand on either bible which some saw as disrespectful.
Performing at Trump’s Inauguration ceremony was country star Carrie Underwood who sang “America the Beautiful”, and opera singer Christopher Macchio who performed the National Anthem.
In Trumps Inaugural address he speaks about some of the matters he will focus on during his administration as well as how he views the country.
“The golden age of America begins right now. From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world, we will be the envy of every nation, and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer,” Trump said.
During his speech, Trump recalled the fires that have been taking over Los Angeles for the past couple of weeks leaving people homeless around California.
“They [fires] are raging through the houses and communities even affecting some of the wealthiest and most powerful individuals in our country, some of whom are sitting here right now. They don’t have a home any longer, that’s interesting. We can’t let this happen,” Trump stated.
President Trump also looked back on some challenges he faced in his political career. Some of those challenges being a threat to his freedom and wellbeing.
“Over the past eight years I have been challenged more than any president in our 250-year history, and I learned a lot along the way, the journey to reclaim our republic has not been an easy one, that I can tell you, those who wish to stop our cause have tried to take my freedom and indeed to take my life,” Trump said.
More specifically Trump mentioned the most recent event where he was injured during a rally this last presidential election.
“Just a few months ago in a beautiful Pennsylvania field, an assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear. But I felt then and believe even more so now that my life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to make America great again,” Trump continued.
Regarding immigration which has been a significant matter for Trump’s administration; the president addressed the matter of illegal immigrational status as an issue he looks forward to solving.
“First, I will declare a National Emergency at our Southern border, all illegal entry will immediately be halted, and we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminals’ aliens back to the places from which they came, we will reinstate my remain in Mexico policy, I will end the practice of catch and release, and I will send troops to the southern border to repel the disastrous invasion of our country,” Trump said.
Another one of Trump’s most prioritized matters is inflation and the economic place in which the country is currently located.
“I will direct all members of my cabinet to marshal the vast powers at their disposal to defeat what was record inflation and rapidly bring down costs and prices,” Trump continued. “Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich other countries we will tariff and tax other countries to enrich our citizens, “Trump said.
According to the WEDU PBS website , the Green New Deal aims to provide clean air and water to all citizens by replacing lead pipes, cleaning hazardous waste, and reducing the need for oil, gas, and coal, which cause air and water pollution.
Ecological issues including the Green New Deal were also commented on by the president.
“With my actions today, we will end the Green New Deal, and we will revoke the electric vehicle mandate saving our auto industry and keeping my sacred pledge to our great American auto workers, in other words, you will be able to buy the car of your choice,” Trump said.

Other issues addressed during the inaugural speech were international disputes, education, and America’s health system. All which Trump assured will be taken care of during his presidency.
“We must be honest about the challenges we face, while they are plentiful, they will be exnihilated by this great momentum the world is now witnessing in the United States of America,” Trump said.
In his speech, the president also approached controversial social issues such as racism and gender transition.
“We will forge a society that is colorblind, and merit based. As of today, it will hand forth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female,” Trump said.
Concluding his speech, Trump claims America’s Golden Age will begin with him as a leader of the country.
“We will stand bravely, we will live proudly, we will dream boldly, and nothing will stand in our way because we are Americans, the future is ours and our golden age has just begun,” Trump stated.
The inauguration ceremony ended around 1 p.m. E.S.T. and was followed by a series of events including an official farewell for President Biden and Vice president Kamala Harris, the traditional president’s review of the troops, and to end the night the Starlight ball.
