From paintings to dances, every culture tells a different story. It is something many people are proud of, and each culture has been a huge influence in America.
Each culture brings something new to America, making it what it is. For this reason, it is of great importance to represent these cultures and their history.
“We celebrate our heritage definitely through music. We’re obsessed with loud music like bachata and it’s always playing no matter what if we’re doing chores, partying, or just in the car we take great pride in our Latino music, and yeah! That’s how we celebrate our heritage,” freshman Brianna Cunillera said.
As Cunillera, a freshman , said, music is one of the many ways someone’s heritage is expressed. While many may show their heritage through music, others may express it in different ways.
“I celebrate my culture especially through the holidays, but the food as well, we love food in our household,” freshman Nya Carrion, stated.
Food plays a significant role in someone’s heritage, as does music. It is passed down from generation to generation, bringing much comfort. This is the same for freshman Evelyn Tartarotti.
“For me, I love the churrasco that my dad makes! It’s basically just extremely amazing, awesome sauce steak slathered with a pinch of salt but cooked absolutely perfectly,” Tartarotti explained.
Whether it be music, food, dance, or some other form of tradition, they are all ways to express one’s culture and past. It is something that has been upheld for years and hopefully will continue to as time goes on.
“If I have to be honest we don’t really do much, unless you count the churrasco that my dad makes. But overall it’s more about the way everybody acts and their personalities are that make it so much more different than anywhere else! There’s an expression in Portuguese called ‘o jeito da pessoa,’ and that basically means a deeper version of “the way someone acts”, but it includes more of that specific person’s personality and way of acting than anything else,” Tartarotti expressed.
