If you take a walk through any school, you’ll see a mix of different types of shoes, but what drives students to their shoe choices, trends or style?
One perspective is that the shoe selections are based on personal style, some students honestly don’t care about the trends and mainly focus on comfort, durability, or if it fits their style. Students would rather have a unique shoe that matches their own preference, whether it is a favorite color or a specific design.
“I wear pink dunks as a style choice, their comfortable, and I mostly wear pink and white outfits, so these shoes match really well,” junior Miangely Medina stated.
A different perspective is that shoe selections are influenced by trends. Students base their shoe selections on what they see on social media or what they see their friends or classmates are wearing. It creates a desire among the students as a way to fit in, or be as fashionable as the other kids in school.
“I wear air-forces to school, I saw everyone wearing them in school and I wanted to get a pair for myself. So, I guess I’m part of the trend,” sophomore Octavio Gonçalves stated.
However, some students see their friends wearing shoes and like the style of it and decide to wear them. The shoe may be a trend going around, but they wear it because they like it, it fits their own style, or because it’s comfortable. So, it really depends on the student wearing the shoes.
“I wear these sporty Nike Converse that my friend introduced me to because they fit my style more than other shoes, and because of how durable and long-lasting they are. So, I consider myself in the middle of style and trend,” junior Luis Suarez stated.
