Senior Trimone Pennant gets some serious hang time as he drives in for an open look

The Varsity team has had moments of excellence, such as a 72-35 victory over Circle Christian at home, showing the potential offensive dominance of this squad despite their 4-9 record. The scoring ability of senior Trimone Pennant is excellent, as he leads the school in points per game at 15.1, and is able to consistently create space for himself and take open jump shots.

“I’ve just been working hard, and playing the way I was taught”, says Pennant. “My individual game has taken off towards the beginning, straight from the jump I’m going to do whatever I have to do to keep me and my teammates winning”.

The offense finds itself running through the hands of junior Tashaun Cook, who is the primary ball handler and consistently finds open teammates, while also putting up consistent numbers, at 9.1 points per game.

“When I first joined the team as the point guard, I was looking to pass the ball a lot”, said Tashaun. “I look for my teammates to get them better, because I can’t be the only player involved on my team so I got them involved, and helped them get better. But when coach gave me the green light and said I needed to start scoring more, I facilitate the ball more, and instead of a one-way, I play as a two-way player to get buckets, play defense, and pass the ball to my teammates to get them better”.

Another focal point of the varsity squad up to this point has been Malakai Smith, who as a freshman on a varsity squad has found consistency on both ends of the court, providing a strong defensive effort while also being able to score the rock (11.0 ppg).

Along with senior experience provided by returning players such as Elton Bello, Pablo Perez, and Luis Alvarez, the varsity boys will look to improve their record going into the second half of the season, and finish strong.
