In a stunning end to an undefeated season, the Four Corners Upper School (FCUS) varsity boys’ soccer team lost 0-1 against Kathleen High School in the Alliance Cup Championship final, a match that tested their resilience from whistle to whistle.
The Coyotes were coming off a thrilling semifinal win on penalties over Discovery High School, which earned them a spot in the championship final.
FCUS soccer coach Freddy Aguirre shared how the team was feeling after their semifinal game.
“Of course, we were pleased to get to the finals, but we knew we had to step up our game if we wanted to come up victorious in the final,” Aguirre said.
The team was extremely excited for the game, and they put up a good fight, but it was not enough to bring the trophy back home.
“Yeah, we were excited about the fact of playing a final and having a good playing style, but we may have had more confidence than we should have and that played against us,” senior captain Henry Martinez said.
Parents of students on the team showed their support by attending the game and buying pizzas for the players to cheer them up after such a hard loss.
“We are very thankful to everyone who made this possible from our parents to Coach Freddy, and of course everyone in this team because we feel like a family and that anybody can add something up,” junior Samuel Barbosa said.
The Coyotes will continue their season looking forward to winning districts and continue playing well with the support of everyone in FCUS.
